Halloween: Room on the Broom Ideas!

Since becoming a SAHM, one of the top questions I’m asked is, “Do you miss teaching?” The part that I miss most is being able to CREATE…making fun and engaging lessons for kids! This is what motivated me. But… after thinking about it, I realize just how little time I had in the day to invest in the cute little projects. So much time was directed toward the nitty gritty…grading, parent communication, assessments…the boring stuff!

So now, as a parent, I like to help teachers, classroom party planners, and moms/dads bring the magic into their child’s school experience, even if it’s currently done virtually at home! This could be through book recommendations, arts/crafts, games & apps, videos, festive treats, any kind of learning activity, etc.!

Halloween will be here before you know it, so I’m sharing a few fun ideas based on the well-known children’s book, Room on the Broom! This story is one of our faves, for kids from pre-k through elementary school!

Whether picking from their teacher’s personal collection, or during weekly checkout time in the school library, kids love choosing books about holidays! However, having a selection large and varied enough for all the kids to read can be tough! So, consider Room on the Broom (a mere $6) the perfect Halloween goodie to gift your child’s teacher…or even to the school librarian!

Another idea is to use this as a read aloud for a Halloween Class Party, or just an at home celebration, with so many having remote/virtual school now! You can create a simple, allergy friendly version, with a broomstick made of pretzels and a pencil! Add the coordinating Broom tag & you’re set

Another healthy variation can be made with some cauldrons full of mini green grapes (Trader Joe’s has mini ones that fit perfectly into the cauldrons) or gaucamole, with individual sized packs from Costco. Our next attempt is a monster milkshake with mint chocolate chip ice cream, sprinkles, and google eyes to embody a true bubbling potion!

For those with a little sweet tooth, you can make a platter full of broomsticks using Snyder’s thin pretzel sticks and a Reese’s peanut butter cup. Because, who doesn’t love chocolate?! Plus, let’s be honest, learning is ALWAYS better when food is involved!

Making these snacks are super simple and easy! Here’s what you’ll need…

There are 3 tag versions offered (in my ETSY shop)….one for teachers to give to their students, one for a student to give to his/her teacher, or one for a student to bring for each classmate! Last year, I was a guest/mystery reader for my boys’ classrooms. I was so excited to read this story and share these snacks, too!

When it comes to learning, creating a THEME is always essential. If you can somehow tie in art, music, literacy, science, or math with a book, consider it a WIN! Below are some additional ideas and printables you can use for extension activities with Room on the Broom…
